Influence of Pre-Chamber Volume, Orifice Diameter and Orifice Number on Performance of Pre-Chamber SI Engine—An Experimental and Numerical Study

This paper presented an experimental and numerical study of pre-chamber volume, number orifices orifice diameter influence on engine performance emissions. All the measurements were performed a single cylinder test at fixed speed 1600 rpm, while load was varied by change excess air ratio in main chamber from stochiometric mixture to lean limit. The total nine variants comprised three different volumes, two combinations (six four orifices) diameters. It observed that volume affects indicated efficiency trend which is mostly independent ratio, with gain between best worst results ranging 1 4.4%. While keeping same cross-sectional area orifices, larger show better out investigated gains more pronounced higher ratios. Finally, variation leads favor diameter. comparison obtained efficiencies all identified pre-chambers, differing each geometrical parameters, depending range. On other hand, variant showed identified. An additional investigation application cycle-simulation model quantify share emissions are formed pre-chamber. when PC lowered, emission shares NOX CO grow larger. size has minor effect shares. maximum 54.8% 80.6% achieved limit (λ = 2.2) for CO, respectively. THC share, not affected significant manner either geometry or operating conditions.
